Students can purchase voicemail for the fee of $10.00 per semester.
(Be advised that our voicemail system will not work if your roommate has an answering machine connected to the phone)  Contact our office at 78800 to order.

Voice Mail

Student Voice Mail boxes hold 25 messages. It is important to keep your mailbox cleaned out; if your box is full, callers will receive a message indicating the mailbox is full. Be aware that every 15 days, the Voice Mail system will automatically purge all played messages. You will always be prompted for your pass code before accessing your mailbox. NPS does not have immediate access to pass codes.

Accessing Your Mail Box For The First Time:

Dial 63500, you will hear "Welcome to the Message Center"
You will be prompted for your mail box number - Dial your 5-digit phone number followed by the * key. Residents with more than one person/room must add a 6th digits depending on the number of people assigned to the room.
FOR EXAMPLE: Room 201 is assigned telephone number 69322 and the room has 4 occupants.

  • Bob is #1 - his voicemail box number is 693221
  • Joe is #2 - his voicemail box number is 693222
  • Tom is #3 - his voicemail box number is 693223
  • Rick is #4 - his voicemail box number is 693224

Enter the Default Passcode - UNCC (8622) You will then be taken through a tutorial to set up your pass code, your greeting to callers who call your mailbox, and to record your name which identifies you when you call in to check your messages.
You can go through the user tutorial again (any time) after entering the system and your pass code by pressing the U (8 key) and T (8 key).

NOTE: NPS does not have immediate access to passcodes. If you forget your passcode, NPS will charge a $10.00 service charge each time your passcode needs to be reset. The reset will be completed by the end of the next working day after the request is received.

Checking Your Messages From Any On-Campus Telephone:

  1. Dial 63500
  2. Enter your mailbox number followed by the * key
  3. Enter your pass code when prompted


Checking Your Messages From Off-Campus:

  1. Dial voice mail access number -- 704-656-3500
  2. Enter your mailbox number followed by the * key
  3. Enter your pass code when prompted

Students will be notified of a message by the Voice Mail system. To receive notification, the student must lift the receiver (activate the phone); the Voice Mail system will the announce, "VOICE MAIL...VOICE MAIL". The Voice Mail system cannot announce for which student the message was left; therefore, all students living in one residence must check their voice mail box.

Playing Messages:

Press P (7 key) to play messages (urgent messages will automatically be played first)

After playing your first messages you have several options:

  1. Press P (7 key) to play message again
  2. Press A (2 key) to answer the person who sent the message, providing this person is within the voice mail system;
  3. Then Press (9 key) to send your response, you may also
  4. Press the * key to send your response to additional mailboxes if you wish.
  5. Press G (4 key) to give the message to another mailbox, distribution list, or off-system telephone number. Be sure to record your response before giving to another mailbox so your response is included.
  6. Press K (5 key) to keep the message
  7. Press D (3 key) to discard the message

Play Back Notes:

At any time during message playback you can:

  1. Press the 1 key to pause for 30 seconds
  2. Press the * key to move back 5 seconds
  3. Press the # key to move forward 5 seconds
  4. Press the 8 key to skip to your next message, and
  5. Press the 8 and * keys to go back to the beginning of your previous message.

Making Messages:

Press M (6 key) to make a message
Enter the persons extension number, your distribution list number, or to dial by name, press 9* (dial the persons last name, then their first name until the system recognizes the name.)
Once the system confirms the persons name, enter the names or numbers of any others
When you have finished addressing your message, press the # key
Begin recording your message after the tone. You may press the * key to pause/or resume during recording, BUT YOU CANNOT EDIT YOUR MESSAGE AT ANY POINT.
When you are finished recording:

  1. Press the 9 key to send the message and exit to the main menu
  2. Press 9* to add more people to the address list,
  3. Press the 6 key to access message addressing options. (Message addressing options are: urgent delivery, future delivery, confidential, and return receipt).

After you have selected from these options, press the 9 key twice to send your message and exit to the main menu.


User Options:

  1. DIAL 63500
  2. Enter your mailbox number followed by the * key
  3. Enter your passcode when prompted
  4. Press U (8 key) User Options

Once in USER OPTIONS, you will be given the following options:

G - TO CHANGE YOUR GREETING:

  1. Press G (4 key) for Greeting
  2. Press P (7 key) to change your Primary personal greeting
  3. Press L (5 key) to Listen to your primary greeting
  4. Press R (7 key) to Record your primary greeting
  5. Press X (9 key) to Exit to the prior menu

N - TO CHANGE YOUR NAME RECORDING:

  1. Press L (5 key) to Listen to your name recording
  2. Press R (7 key) to Record your name
  3. Press X (9 key) to Exit to the prior menu

P - TO CHANGE YOUR PASSCODE:

  1. Enter 4 to 10 digits

L - TO CREATE OR MODIFY A DISTRIBUTION LIST:

Enter the number of the distribution list. (Personal distribution list may be added by using numbers 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, and 08 only.)

  1. Press N (6 key) to Name the distribution list. (The system will play this name each time you address messages to this distribution list.)
  2. Press A (2 key) to Add members to the list; Press D (3 key) to Drop members ) Enter the numbers or names of users you wish to add or drop.
  3. Press P (7 key) if you would like the system to play back the list of members you have selected.
  4. Press X (9 key) to Exit to the main menu.

T- TUTORIAL:

  1. Press T (8 key) to enter tutorial and follow instructions as prompted by the system
  2. Press X(9 key) to Exit to the prior menu
